Corporate Fishing Event: Boat Trips and Rod Competitions

What a corporate fishing event looks like: rod training on a boat, team competition, beginner fishing tips and the factors that shape the budget.

Corporate event participants fishing with rods from a boat deck at sea

A corporate fishing event is a nature programme in which the team learns rod fishing with an instructor on a boat, a pier or a lakeshore and, if you like, collects points in teams. Equipment, bait and guidance come from the organiser; participants do not need to have held a rod before.

In the video below the team first prepares its rigs in the boat's cabin, then goes out on deck and drops their lines into the sea. A few calm but focused hours with phones left in pockets.

What happens on a corporate fishing trip?

  1. Welcome and safety: on boarding, life jackets, deck rules and the plan for the day are explained.
  2. Short training: the instructor introduces the local fish species, the rig to be used and the basic techniques.
  3. Rig preparation: participants tie the line, hooks and sinker together and bait the hooks.
  4. Fishing time: the boat anchors at a good spot or drifts slowly; everyone casts and the instructors move around the deck to help.
  5. Scoring: if a team competition is planned, fish are scored by species and size.
  6. Closing: the team with the highest score takes the cup; if you wish, the programme ends with lunch.

How do you fish with a rod? Tips for beginners

  • Patience is everything: after casting, keep the line slightly taut and wait to feel the bite.
  • When you feel the bite, lift the rod with a short, firm movement rather than a hard jerk.
  • Reel in steadily; letting the line go slack lets the fish escape.
  • Use gloves when handling hooks and sinkers, and check behind you before casting.
  • Gently return fish below the minimum legal size to the sea.

Our instructors demonstrate these tips hands-on on deck. The joy of a participant catching their first fish is often the most talked-about moment of the day.

Why choose fishing as a company event?

Most team activities are built on high energy and speed. Fishing does the opposite: it moves through patience, attention and shared small wins. Colleagues waiting side by side on deck talk about things they never discuss in the meeting room. It suits leadership teams, sales teams who want to unwind after a busy period and groups looking for a quiet day in nature. To compare it with other formats, see our team building guide.

What does a fishing event cost depend on?

The main factors are the number of participants, programme length, whether it takes place on a boat or on shore, boat hire and departure point, the city, number of instructors, food and catering, and the trophy and award setup.
