What Is a Mirror Booth and How Does It Work? A Hire Guide

What a mirror booth is, how it works and how it differs from a classic photo booth, plus the factors that affect hire cost and setup tips for your event.

A mirror booth is a photo booth with a camera hidden behind a full-length touch screen that looks like a mirror. Guests look into the mirror rather than at a camera, run the shoot from the mirror surface, decorate their photo with effects, frames or text, and print or share it instantly.

The video shows a mirror booth set up at a summer party on an outdoor lawn. The mirror stands at the end of a red carpet, gold stanchions keep the queue in order and event flags complete the backdrop. Guests pose with friends in front of the mirror and run the screen themselves.

How does a mirror booth work?

  1. The guest steps up to the mirror; animations on the screen greet them and invite them to shoot.
  2. They pose to a countdown and trigger the shot from the touch-sensitive mirror surface.
  3. They design their own frame by adding effects, frames, text or emojis to the photo.
  4. They print the shot instantly or share it digitally.
  5. The frame, screen design and print card are prepared around the event theme and brand.

How is a mirror booth different from a classic photo booth?

In a classic Photo Booth the guest checks their pose on a screen; in a mirror booth the mirror itself is both the screen and the controls. Because the full-length format frames the whole body, it stands out at galas, summer parties and launches where outfits matter. Letting guests design their own photo also means the same shot can turn into two completely different results in two people's hands. A short queue at the mirror: every group designs its own frame.

Leaving a few metres of open space in front of the mirror lets groups step into frame comfortably. Creating an entry corridor with a red carpet and stanchions, as in the video, both organises the queue and turns the space in front of the mirror into a small stage. Because we prepare the screen animations and frame around the event theme, the mirror looks like a natural part of the decor.

Mirror booth hire: what affects the price?

The main factors in mirror booth hire cost are the length of the event, guest numbers, whether you want prints and how many, custom brand design for the screen and frame, decor add-ons such as a red carpet and stanchions, and the city and setup conditions. For outdoor setups, light and weather are part of the plan too. We handle setup, design, printing and the on-site crew; for a quote, the date, venue and expected guest count are enough.
