What Is a Photo Bus? A Guide to Hiring a Retro Minibus Photo Booth
What is a photo bus and how does it work? Parking, personalisation, timing and cost factors when hiring a photo booth in a retro Volkswagen minibus.

A photo bus is a minibus converted into a photo booth inside: guests climb in, pose within its retro decor and get their photos digitally or in print. Our Photo Bus is a 1970 Volkswagen T2 with a fully refurbished interior.
In the video below you can see the vehicle parked at an outdoor event and the shoots inside: quilted upholstery, a string of coloured lights, a disco ball, a camera with a ring light and groups posing with props.
What is a photo bus and how does it work?
A classic photo booth is set up inside a cabin or stand; with a photo bus, the vehicle itself is the booth. A camera, ring light, preview screen and print unit are fitted into a wooden cabinet at the back of the vehicle. Guests sit on the bench opposite or gather standing, and pose while watching themselves on the screen. Shots are ready within moments and are either shared digitally or printed and handed over on the spot.

What should you check when hiring a photo bus?
- Parking space: the vehicle needs an access route to the event area and a level spot to park. Gardens, terraces, car parks and festival grounds all work.
- Location and visibility: parked near the entrance or the cocktail area, the bus draws its own queue; its nostalgic look catches the eye at first glance.
- Personalisation: the interior decoration, photo frames and props are restyled around your logo, corporate colours and event theme.
- Delivery: decide early whether you want instant prints, digital sharing via QR code, or both.
- Duration and crowd: it can be planned for anything from a 20-guest gathering to events of more than 3,000 people, for 30 to 180 minutes.
Which events is a photo bus used at?
It is used at corporate events, company picnics and family days, launches, festivals, weddings and private parties. Because the vehicle makes room for groups, photos of friends and teams are especially fun: as the video shows, a big group in hats, coloured glasses and tinsel fits comfortably in one frame. Shared photos keep the brand visible on social media long after the event.

What does the cost of a photo bus depend on?
The main cost factors are the length of the event, the expected number of guests, the city and the distance the vehicle has to travel, the number of prints or a digital-only choice, and the brand personalisation required for the interior and frames. Bringing the vehicle, dressing it and running the shoot are our responsibility.
