Holograms at Events: How They Work and Where to Place Them
Using holograms at conferences, foyers and on stage: how a hologram fan works, where to place the device, what to watch at set-up and what affects the price.

A hologram at an event turns a logo, product or message into a three-dimensional image that seems to float in mid-air, creating a striking focal point in the foyer, on stage or in an exhibition area. The most common devices are hologram fans with spinning LED blades and vertical hologram displays.
The video shows a set-up we built in the foyer of a conference centre in Harbiye, Istanbul: the words "İşimiz Ticari Diplomasi" (Our Business Is Commercial Diplomacy) floating above white plinths behind a rope barrier, against granite walls. Guests stopping to look and reaching for their phones sums up what a hologram does in a foyer.
How does a hologram work?
Most holograms used at events are not true holograms in the scientific sense but display techniques that create the same effect. The most common is the hologram fan: blades fitted with LED strips spin very fast, the LEDs light up at exactly the right moment in each position, and the eye reads the light as a continuous image. Because the spinning blades are almost invisible, the image seems to hang in the air in front of a dark background.
Other methods include transparent screens and life-size cabinet-style hologram displays. If you want to show a life-size presenter or product on stage, our hologram display launch guide focuses on that scenario.

Where should a hologram go at an event?
- Foyer and registration: shows the event theme or slogan at the first point guests reach.
- Beside the stage: supports a talk by showing the product or logo in three dimensions.
- Exhibition and product areas: next to display plinths, as in the video, it tells the story of the item on show.
- Trade show booths: a visual hook that stops people looking in from the aisle.
- Gala entrances: brings the evening's theme into the welcome moment.
What should you watch for when setting up a hologram?
- Keep the background dark and plain: the image reads more clearly against a dark surface, and the effect fades in front of a very bright wall.
- Control the light: spotlights shining straight down and daylight wash the image out.
- Leave a safety distance: devices with spinning blades are mounted out of reach or inside a protective enclosure, with a barrier in front. The video set-up used a tall pole and a barrier too.
- Keep content short and high-contrast: animations on a black background, looping every few seconds, give the sharpest result.
- Plan the viewing angle: a hologram looks best from the front, so face the device towards the guest flow.
