Istanbul Food Tour as a Game: A Team Flavour Hunt With Foodhunt

How a corporate Istanbul food tour becomes a team game with Foodhunt: route, missions, tasting stops, duration, group size and planning tips.

Foodhunt is a food tour designed as an adventure race, in which teams solve missions to find the right route and taste local flavours at every stop. On a classic Istanbul food tour the group follows a guide; in Foodhunt, reaching the next dish is up to the team.

What is Foodhunt, and how is it different from a classic food tour?

In our Foodhunt activity, starters, hot appetisers, mains, mezes, desserts and drinks are built into a race. To avoid going hungry, teams must complete every mission and follow the right route. Along the way they collect secret recipes and each team builds its own local cookbook.

In the video the group starts the day in a hotel lobby: teams gather and mission envelopes are handed out. Then, on a rainy day with umbrellas in hand, they listen to the next mission in front of a historic building in Beyoğlu.

How do you design a corporate Istanbul food tour?

  1. Choosing the district: pick an area with many food stops within walking distance, such as Beyoğlu, Karaköy, Kadıköy or the historic peninsula.
  2. Stop plan: what will be tasted at each stop, and how many portions, is arranged in advance.
  3. Missions: clues leading to the next stop, recipe questions and photo tasks are prepared.
  4. Teams: the group is split into small teams that set off from different starting points.
  5. Finale: teams meet at a shared point where cookbooks and scores are judged.

How is it adapted for international groups and dietary needs?

For international teams visiting Istanbul for a meeting, like the group in the video, missions can be prepared in English. The route and tasting stops are planned in advance around the group's dietary preferences; vegetarian, gluten-free or allergy-friendly options are arranged with the venues. For groups who want mystery more than flavour in the same area, the Orient Express city game in Karaköy is a good alternative.

Foodhunt is planned for groups of 5 to 500 people and runs 60 to 180 minutes. Cost depends on headcount, number of stops and portions, district and city, duration, language and guide needs, and mission materials prepared in your corporate identity.

One more tip: scheduling Foodhunt on the first day of the programme creates a natural way for teams who do not know each other to meet. Sharing the same plate and finding the next stop together bonds people far faster than formal introductions in a meeting room. At the end of the day, each team's cookbook stays on as a memento of the event.
